Route 66 Extended Motorhome Tour

The tour price includes 3-nights’ accommodation at a central city Chicago hotel. Flights from New Zealand arrive at Chicago International airport (ORD) located approximately 20 miles from the city. Shared shuttles and taxis depart from the airport intermodal facility. Your tour notes include a list of transfer suggestions and Chicago attractions.

Your motorhome will be ready for pickup after 1:00 pm. The rental depot is located at Glen Ellyn approximately 30 miles from the central city. The depot staff will provide instructions on motorhome use and features. Our RV Park is at Joliet, a 50-minute drive on the freeway from the rental depot. Enjoy a meal with your fellow travelers at the adjacent casino.

The Gateway Arch – it is the world’s tallest arch, a 190-metre monument in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. Take a tram ride to the top. Visit the museum and trace stories of Native Americans, explorers, pioneers, and rebels who made America possible.

- Meramec Caverns – Discover a 4.6-mile cavern system in the Ozarks, near Stanton, Missouri. The caverns were formed from the erosion of large limestone deposits over millions of years.
- World’s Largest Rocking Chair – Located on old Route 66 – Has a great gift shop.

Will Rogers Centre Claremore – a 19,052-square-foot museum in Claremore, Oklahoma that celebrates entertainer Will Rogers. The museum houses artifacts, memorabilia, photographs, and manuscripts.

National Cowboy Hall of Fame – Visit the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum with more than 28,000 Western and American Indian art works and artifacts, allocate 3-6 hours minimum to see everything.

- Oklahoma Route 66 Museum Clinton – The museum offers visitors a personal journey through the history of Route 66.
- Elk City Old Town – Experience historical small-town USA during your stay in Elk City Oklahoma.

Big Texan Steakhouse – Dine at The Big Texan in Amarillo get a 72oz steak eat it in under an hour and its free.

- Sandia Peak Tramway. – One of the longest aerial tramways in the world offering spectacular views over the city.
- Old Town Albuquerque – located between Mountain Road and Central Ave. A genuine Spanish old town square and an Old Mission Church, shops, and restaurants an interesting place to visit.

- Old Route 66 Historic Hotel – Discover a unique Southwest Experience during the American West. The El Rancho Hotel is a pillar of the West and was the Home of the Movie Stars throughout the 1930s to 1940s who filmed Westerns in the area.
- Petrified Forest National Park – A unique natural wonder located in Northeast Arizona.

- Free Shuttle Buses – The campground is located within the National Park, a short distance from the Canyon. Shuttle buses depart from the campground entrance and take you to canyon viewpoints and the visitor centre.
- Helicopter flights – Optional tours over the Grand Canyon and experience one of the seven natural wonders of the world from the air.

- Williams AZ – The last town to be bypassed by the freeway. Has some great gift shops and cafes.
- Seligman & Hackberry – Travel old Route 66 through to Kingman with stops at these historic towns along the way.

- Visit Hoover Dam as you travel through from Kingman.
- Free Shuttle Buses – depart from the casino adjacent to the RV park taking you to the Las Vegas Strip and Freemont Street.
- Las Vegas Strip – Your tour notes have a recommended walking tour visiting several casinos with free entertainment.
- Fremont Street Experience – Head Down Town for bands, street entertainers , zip line, and much more.
- World Class Shows – Your tour notes tell you how to buy tickets to the best shows in Vegas, frequently at discounted prices.

Located 3-hours from Las Vegas, Zion offers a variety of short and longer walks. Most walks are easy going but some are challenging. Details are in your tour notes. Motor vehicles are generally not permitted in the park. Free shuttle buses depart from our campground entrance.

- Bryce Canyon National Park – Situated 2-hours from Zion, Bryce is famous for its hoodoos which can be viewed from the canyon rim or the canyon floor. As with Zion it offers a variety of easy going and challenging walks. Motor vehicles are permitted in the park but we recommend you use the free shuttle buses that depart from our campground entrance.
- Mount Carmel Tunnel – Built mostly by hand in the late 1920’s the tunnel is just over a mile long and for many a not to be missed experience. It connects Zion with other National Parks in the area. It is narrow and motorhomes require a permit to enter the tunnel. More details in your tour notes.

- City Sightseeing – Salt Lake City offers lots of sightseeing options including the Mormon Tabernacle and possibly an opportunity to see and hear the world-famous choir in rehearsal. Street cars depart regularly to all parts of the city from the RV Park entrance.
- Bonneville Salt Flats – Known for the many land speed records set at the Bonneville Speedway, the salt flats are situated just outside the town of Wendover Nevada, a 1:30 hour drive or 3-hour return trip on the freeway from Salt Lake City.

Arches National Park. One of several National Parks in this area, Arches is renowned for its natural stone arches and soaring pinnacles. The park is very popular and offers several walking options. Timed entries are available and highly recommended.

Dead Horse Point – A Utah State Park situated on a high plateau a 45-minute drive from Moab offers breathtaking views of the Colorado River and Canyonlands National Park. Flat and easy walks lead to eight different overlooks. An entrance fee is payable.

Guided 4wd Tour – Many movies starring John Wayne were filmed at Monument Valley. As the Valley is on an Indian Reserve and access is restricted, we have included a guided tour of the reserve which departs from the RV Park.

- Grand Canyon Railway RV Park – has some of the best amenities on tour. Time for some R & R, read a book or catch up on the laundry.
- Town of Williams – a short walk from the RV park, it was the last Route 66 town to be by passed by the freeway. It offers cafes, souvenirs, and Route 66 gas stations.

- Calico Ghost Town – Check into the RV park and for something visit the Calico Ghost town.
- Peggy Sues 1950’s Diner. That evening visit Peggy Sues for classic USA dining in a great 1950’s style diner.

Yosemite National Park – covers nearly 1,200 square miles of mountainous scenery with high cliffs, deep valleys, large wilderness areas and of course the ancient giant sequoia trees. It is a very popular park with millions of visitors each year. The park has several campgrounds that can accommodate motorhomes. These campgrounds offer only dry camping with basic facilities. You have a three-night stay at Yosemite. Subject to availability the group will stay the first night at a full-service RV park located a short distance from the park entrance. The second night will be dry camping within the park returning the following day to the RV park. This arrangement gives two full days within the park.

County Fairgrounds RV Park – Your last night in the motorhome – Time to pack and prepare your motorhome to be returned tomorrow.

Your motorhome is due back at the depot before 10:00 am on day 18. The motorhome depot is a 15-minute drive from the Pleasanton RV Park. Transfers to your central city hotel will be arranged
