ROUTE 66 MOTORHOME EXTENSION TOUR
LAS VEGAS TO SAN FRANCISCO
This tour is offered as an extension to the Kiwi Travel Club Chicago to Las Vegas Route 66 Motorhome Tour.
Day 1 – 2 – Springdale UT
Zion National Park – Located 3-hours from Las Vegas, Zion offers a variety of short and longer walks. Most walks are easy going but some are challenging. Details are in your tour notes. Motor vehicles are generally not permitted in the park. Free shuttle buses depart from our campground entrance.
Day 3 – 4 Bryce Canyon UT
Bryce Canyon National Park – Situated 2-hours from Zion, Bryce is famous for its hoodoos which can be viewed from the canyon rim or the canyon floor. As with Zion it offers a variety of easy going and challenging walks. Motor vehicles are permitted in the park but we recommend you use the free shuttle buses that depart from our campground entrance.
Mount Carmel Tunnel – Built mostly by hand in the late 1920’s the tunnel is just over a mile long and for many a not to be missed experience. It connects Zion with other National Parks in the area. It is narrow and motorhomes require a permit to enter the tunnel. More details in your tour notes.
Day 5 – 7 Salt Lake City UT
City Sightseeing – Salt Lake City offers lots of sightseeing options including the Mormon Tabernacle and possibly an opportunity to see and hear the world-famous choir in rehearsal. Street cars depart regularly to all parts of the city from the RV Park entrance.
Bonneville Salt Flats – Known for the many land speed records set at the Bonneville Speedway, the salt flats are situated just outside the town of Wendover Nevada, a 1:30 hour drive or 3-hour return trip on the freeway from Salt Lake City.
Day 8 – 10 – Moab UT
Arches National Park. One of several National Parks in this area, Arches is renowned for its natural stone arches and soaring pinnacles. The park is very popular and offers several walking options. Timed entries are available and highly recommended.
Dead Horse Point – A Utah State Park situated on a high plateau a 45-minute drive from Moab offers breathtaking views of the Colorado River and Canyonlands National Park. Flat and easy walks lead to eight different overlooks. An entrance fee is payable.
Day 11 Monument Valley UT
Guided 4wd Tour – Many movies starring John Wayne were filmed at Monument Valley. As the Valley is on an Indian Reserve and access is restricted, we have included a guided tour of the reserve which departs from the RV Park.
Day 12 Williams AZ
Grand Canyon Railway RV Park – has some of the best amenities on tour. Time for some R & R, read a book or catch up on the laundry.
Town of Williams – a short walk from the RV park, it was the last Route 66 town to be by passed by the freeway. It offers cafes, souvenirs, and Route 66 gas stations.
Day 13 Barstow CA
Calico Ghost Town – Check into the RV park and for something visit the Calico Ghost town.
Peggy Sues 1950’s Diner. That evening visit Peggy Sues for classic USA dining in a great 1950’s style diner.
Day 14 – 16 Coarsegold CA
Yosemite National Park – covers nearly 1,200 square miles of mountainous scenery with high cliffs, deep valleys, large wilderness areas and of course the ancient giant sequoia trees. It is a very popular park with millions of visitors each year. The park has several campgrounds that can accommodate motorhomes. These campgrounds offer only dry camping with basic facilities. You have a three-night stay at Yosemite. Subject to availability the group will stay the first night at a full-service RV park located a short distance from the park entrance. The second night will be dry camping within the park returning the following day to the RV park. This arrangement gives two full days within the park.
Day 17 Pleasanton CA
County Fairgrounds RV Park – Your last night in the motorhome – Time to pack and prepare your motorhome to be returned tomorrow.
Day 18 – 20 Central San Francisco
Your motorhome is due back at the depot before 10:00 am on day 18. The motorhome depot is a 15-minute drive from the Pleasanton RV Park. Transfers to your central city hotel will be arranged
