KIWI TRAVEL CLUB – WESTERN USA NATIONAL PARKS 

MOTORHOME & CRUISE TOUR – ITINERARY JUNE 2024

 

DAY 1:  VANCOUVER, TRANSFER TO AIRPORT HOTEL

On arrival take the hotel shuttle and enjoy a good night’s rest before joining the Alaska cruise the following day.

DAY 2 – 8:  INSIDE PASSAGE ALASKA CRUISE VANCOUVER

Today you will be transferred from your hotel to the cruise terminal. For more detail on the cruise see separate page.

DAY 9:  FLIGHT VANCOUVER TO SEATTLE

Once you disembark the cruise ship you take the train from the cruise terminal to the airport and board the flight to Seattle. One night hotel accommodation with breakfast and transfers are included. Motorhome pickup is the following day. THIS FLIGHT SHOULD BE BOOKED WITH YOUR INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS 

DAY 10 & 11: LEAVENWORTH, WASHINGTON 

Transfers will be provided from the hotel to the motorhome rental company depot where staff will show you how to operate the onboard equipment and answer any questions. As we make our way to the National Parks, we make a visit to a restored Bavarian Town. Great German/Swiss food and shops that sell most things including cuckoo clocks. On arrival travel to a local supermarket for supplies and on to the RV Park for your first happy hour.

DAY 12 & 13:  SPOKANE

The group will stay at Lake Coeur d’Alene RV Resort a few miles past Spokane. You can take the freeway, but we recommend you take the scenic route which takes you up a mountain pass and onto the flat plains, with farms and fields of wheat that seem to stretch for miles and small service towns. This really is in the USA heartland! You have two nights here with time for a two-hour lake cruise and views of how the other half live in multimillion dollar holiday homes.

DAY 14: DEER LODGE MONTANA

Located around 180 miles from Yellowstone National Park our overnight stop provides an opportunity to stock up on supplies for the journey ahead, visit a preserved working ranch, an old prison and view an impressive collection of classic cars.

DAY 15, 16 & 17: YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK MONTANA

During your three-night stay at West Yellowstone, you will likely see plenty of wildlife including bears, buffalo, deer, and groundhogs. You can view the world famous “Old Faithful Geyser” in this famous National Park. Our RV Park is in the park close to the grand circle touring route which takes you past lakes, thermally active areas, hot springs and even the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

DAY 18: GRAND TETONS NATIONAL PARK, WYOMING

Situated next door to Yellowstone this National Park is perhaps one of the USA best kept secrets. It is home to glacial lakes, picture-perfect mountains, and sage-covered valleys. A real photographers dream. It is only 96 miles from Yellowstone, and we make several stops along the way. The group will stay at Jackson Hole, a western town with wooden boardwalks and cowboy bars. There is a full day self-drive tour here stopping at all the major sightseeing spots through this National Park.

DAY 19: PROVO, UTAH

We use a touring route from Jackson Hole that has some great scenery. We then join the freeway for our overnight stop at Provo. More details are in your trip notes.

DAY 20 & 21: BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK UTAH

The stunning Bryce Canyon National Park is famous for its Hoodoos and extraordinary sunrises. We have an included group meal here and a half day coach tour with commentary to Rainbow Point.

DAY 22 & 23: ZION NATIONAL PARK UTAH

We travel through the not to be forgotten Mt Carmel tunnel and enjoy spectacular views along the way, on the short 90-mile trip. A shuttle bus service operates within the park providing easy access to the many short and extended walks to explore the wonderful desert scenery.

DAY 24,25 &26: GRAND CANYON, ARIZONA

You have an unforgettable three nights at the Grand Canyon South Rim. Our campground is located within the park boundary. The campground has full hookups (Power water and sewer) but showers and laundry are in an adjacent campground. You can view the South Rim at your leisure using the free shuttle buses which take you to the main canyon viewing points. Shuttle buses depart from the campground entrance.   Helicopter flights depart from Grand Canyon airport located some 20 miles from our campground. To ensure a place these need to be pre- booked.

DAY 27: KINGMAN, ARIZONA

On our way down to Kingman we visit the town of Williams, the last Route 66 town by passed by the freeway system and then travel a preserved section of old Route 66, with stops at the towns of Seligman and don’t blink or you will miss it, Hackberry. All have a great selection of Route 66 souvenirs.

DAY 28: BARSTOW, CALIFORNIA

The group should arrive in Barstow in time for lunch at Peggy Sues for classic USA dinning in a great 1950’s style diner. After lunch visit the Calico Ghost town before returning to the RV park for happy hour drinks.

DAY 29,30 & 31  YOSMITE NATIONAL PARK, CALIFORNIA

Yosemite National Park covers nearly 1,200 square miles of mountainous scenery with high cliffs, deep valleys, large wilderness areas and course the ancient giant sequoia tress. It is a very popular park with millions of visitors each year. The park has several campgrounds that can accommodate motorhomes. These campgrounds offer only dry camping with basic facilities.  The group has a three-night stay at Yosemite. Subject to availability the group will stay the first night at a full-service RV park located a short distance from the park entrance. The second night will be dry camping within the park returning the following day to the RV park. This arrangement gives two full days within the park.

DAY 32: PLEASTON , CALIFORNIA

We end the motorhome tour with a visit to small town America a short drive from Yosmite.

DAY 33,34 & 35: HILTON HOTEL, UNION SQUARE, SANFRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA

You retrn your motorhome today and transfer to the Hilton (or similar hotel) in centrally located Union Square and the streetcars that will take you to all the top sightseeing attractions including Lombard St, Golden Gate Bridge, and Alcatraz (Needs to be prebooked)

DAY 26: Onward Travel

For those that have booked flights you will transfered to the the airport for your  journey home.
